The End of My GLP-1 Journey

The End of My GLP-1 Journey

A few weeks ago, after talking to my doctor we decided to stop taking GLP-1s. I know I stood by them and I still do. I lost a lot of weight while on them and it helped me get on track. In my case, it had stopped working months ago, and increasing the dose just caused me digestive problems without solving the cravings and hunger issues I usually have.

She tried to take me on another medication, that is supposed to help with cravings. It had a funny name. Naltrexone I think it was called. It helped with the cravings but made me extremely spacy and sleepy. So we stopped that.

After this week’s visit, she told me to focus on protein, just eating more protein and cutting out or back on things like carbs with rice, potatoes, breads, and sugary stuff. Those are my weakness so it will be hard. But she also told me not to starve myself. Not to pig out either, but to eat good protein and meats and if I’m hungry to eat more of it and not snack on things like chips and things.

After two days of eating like this, I already have more energy. I don’t feel as bloated and am down four or five pounds already. So, if I can stick with this I think it will be a good life change for me. Especially at my age, getting my blood sugar and things down a long with my weight.

I know this is likely the “hard” way, but in my lifetime of weight loss attempts, there really is no easy way. This is the end of my GLP-1 journey but not my weight journey. If anything, the GLP -1 showed me what is possible and I’m trying to continue without the medication to help. This may not work, but I’m going to try and so far I feel encouraged. I also started doing my dumbbell exercises. I have a couple 15 lbs. dumbbells I do about 4 or 5 various arm, shoulder and chest workouts while sitting to build muscle. I also plan to start walking again, even if just for a short distance because I have a sore left hip. Losing weight may cause that to feel better.

Either way, I feel both nervous and encouraged and hoping I can stick with this. I had given up on conventional weight loss years ago because nothing worked. But my doctor, who has treated our family for about 12 years, says I can do it and says she’ll help me through all this. Plus, I need to. I was around 340 at the doctor’s office today. I was around 370 when I first started this journey and I’m too old to carry that kind of weight and not die younger than I’d like. So, I need to change my lifestyle in a couple of ways. I really want to do this, not just to look better, but to feel better and live longer. I’ll keep you all posted on how It goes.
