When Did 20 People Stop Being Enough

Creating blogs and content has been a big learning curve for me. Even making art and trying to sell it, you pretty much just look at sales. Which for me was usually zero, so there wasn't much about numbers to look at.

In content creation and blogging, you have to look at your metrics. Look at your unique visitors, overall views, subscriptions, and on and on.

I started out with zero, and now I'm almost to 20 people. At first, that felt like it wasn't enough. And yes, we always want to grow. But I've learned in this process not to lose sight of the people who do show up for you.

Someone told me, 20 people doesn't seem like a lot online. But imagine having a small store or booth and 20 people showed up to check out your stuff. That would be pretty exciting.

Each of those 20 people is a unique individual with their own life, their own story, and their own needs. Yet they have taken time out of their day, opened up their inbox, and invited your content into their lives.

The worst mistake we can make is to neglect those people who show up for us and then go online and complain that no one supports us or no one cares.

These folks care.

The internet, and social media in general, has made us numb, or at least ignorant to numbers. We see these big accounts with tens of thousands of followers. So we have our 20 subscribers and think we aren't performing.

The fact is, I'd rather have those 20 subscribers than a thousand casual social media looky-loos.

These are people invested enough in our work and our art that they want to follow through and see more. You just need to check your views vs. likes on social media to see how many people actually stop to process your work.

I'm kind of medicated tonight, so I don't have a super lengthy thought on this, but I wanted to get it down and get it out there before it escaped my brain.

Point is, don't forget your true followers, even if there are just a few. Every single one of them matters, and every one of them is important. The worst thing you can do is make them feel like they don't count.

In my blog on Manifesting, I talk about being ready for the universe to open up to you. If you can't handle 20 followers, then 20,000 is going to be way too much.

Nurture that following and care for them. Yes, some will leave. New ones will come, old ones will go. Show up for the ones who show up for you.

In the end, they will be the ones loyal to you and supporting you. Even when your own friends and family have written this off as your cute little hobby, they will reward you in ways 10,000 Instagram followers never could.
