Manifestation: Fantasy vs. Frequency
Why positive thinking without action fails. A candid look at the science of frequency, building capacity, and putting in the work to actually succeed.
I'm still reading the Black Book of Manifestation and its really opening my eyes to so much. It also explains a lot of things about why my past manifesting didn't go well. I've talked about this some in past blogs. But I wanted to expand on what I've learned.
When I first entered spiritual spaces, I was overwhelmed t how many books, classes, workshops and gurus there were out there. A lot of stuff about manifestation comes from the book The Secret and Law of Attraction teaching. Something about that stuff always felt off to me, but I tried it.
When my manifesting didn't happen or I struggled with other things, I was always blamed for having blocks, negative energy or some other buzzword as to why things weren't working.
I did catch some lucky breaks and had a few waves of money and success in small doses. That could have been manifestion or dumb luck. But it was always something temporary. During covid we got a small, small business grant because we were self employed and live in an economically depressd area. So they notified me that we qualified. That was nice, but it wasn't a windfall. It did help a lot though.
What most teachings in this are get wrong is they teach fantisizing, not actual manifestation. Asking for wealth, success, health, etc and picturing those things in your head and all that is great and can be helpful. But without the work, its useless.
I remember in high school an former olympic wrestler visited our wrestling team and told us about visualization he would do before each match and would see himself winning. He won silver at Montreal in 1976.
So from that day forward, our coach would take us through visualization exercises ever day after practice. It never helped me, as I was never very good to begin with. My body was still growing and I pretty much had two left feet and no balance. i always got pinned no matter how hard I tried.
I was about 16 and really had no idea what any of that meant or what I was doing also. So there is that. I wasn't the most self aware kid, as I learned as an adult I'm on the autism spectrum, so that explains a lot of my teenage issues.
Anyway, the reason this wrestler did so well with visualizing is because of his frequency. This man was almost 40 by the time he visited us and when practicing with us, he could pin all of us including our coaches without breaking a sweat.
His frequency was that he had put in the work. He had decades of training, practice and preparation. By the time he visualized, he had put the work in. The manifesting and visualization was about getting his mind and confidence to the place where he knew he would win.
See, it's magical but its also rather scientific. My self confidence was always crap growing up, so for one a lot of times I would give up something before I even gave it a fair chance out of fear of failure. Or when I would try something I would suck at it or blow it up because I just assumed I was going to lose before I actually attempted anything.
I believe in everyone else, just not in myself. So when I would manifest I wanted to be a great artist, or even a moderately successful one, it wouldn't go anywhere because not only did I not believe it, but I hadn't put in the work yet. While I've been painting 3-4 years there are arists who have been at this their whole life, who still aren't selling art full time.
I was likely trying too much too soon. Which goes to the other problem in our frequency. We may run an online store, or art or create someting and manifesting money or success, but we just aren't ready. I've heard of etsy sellers who have almost shut down because a celebrity would wear their item and people found where its from and they went form a few orders a week to 10,000 orders a day. That would overwhelm any small creator. yes the money is nice, but trying to scale at that rate is just too much for almost anyone.
Slow growth is always better, building a foundation of loyal supporters and growing it over time is where real sustainability comes in. The Universe knows this and deep down we all know it too. We're just impatient.
We've all heard of normal poeple who win the lottery and they end up in a worst financial situation than they were before they had money. When you have been raised on a scarcity mindset, having infinite resources can ruin you if you don't know how to handle it or what to do with it.
Of course, I still operate from scarcity but I'm learning. Many years ago with my ex-wife we came into a decent windfall and she insisted putting most of it in the stock market. We lost over half of it because of the big crash. Out of panic we took it out and opened the cell phone store with the rest. That went out of business about 3 yrs later and we were flat broke. Talk about feeling like a failure. I was like how did I fuck this all up.
Truth is, we werent' ready. We had never seen that kind of money and when we got it we didn't talk to anyone who knew how we should deal with it because we were afraid everyone would try to rip us off. In retrospect we should have just left it in the stock market and let it rebuild itself over time, but we were scared and impatient.
But in the end, I feel that was a lesson for what I'm building now and where I'm going in the future. I'm building a following on this blog for my art and writing. I'm learning the proper way to manifest with action, not just thoughts. Our action gives our thoughts power.
I know there may be some who disagree with this method but it all makes so much sense. Think about it. Imagine Shaun White sitting on his couch eating nachos for four years manifesting gold medals in snowboarding then showing up to the Olympics. He wouldn't do so hot. He trained relentlessly before each Olympics and would focus his mind on what he needed to do.
The mental aspect is just as important as the action, but you can't accomplish anything without the action. You're just floating wishes into the universe. And we've all heard the phrase "Be careful what you wish for." I think that is especially true when trying to manifest things you haven't earned. You're more likely to end up with a lot of pain and frustration. The answer is in you, it always has been.
