Being A Mental Witch: Whatever that Means

Being A Mental Witch: Whatever that Means
The Morrigan by Eric Ravenwolf

I call myself a mental witch, I don't know what the real word for it is. I do most of my practice mentally. I meditate, journal and other similar things to develop my spells and manifest things I need and such. There is a lot of 2 way spirit communication goign on. It's all kinda weird if you don't know what I'm talking about.

I also am half baked tonight as I write this, but I got a blogging itch, so bare with me. I know my last few blogs have been pretty heavy so I wanted to lighten things up a bit.

There is all kinds of witchcraft, I'm not going to list them all. Kitchen witch is a really popular phrase. There are all kinds of other witches. I kind of fall into a weird thing, but that's always been me. Even as a kid I was the last one to get picked for kickball teams, so not surprising my kind of witchcraft doesn't fit in with anyone else.

The first time I ever meditated was by accident. It was years ago and that was when a Celtic Deity the Morrigan reached out to me. This was all weird for me as I was a pretty heavy atheist. Though I was in the midst of a mental health crisis, so I thought maybe I should listen and see where this thread goes.

I reached out to The Morrigan and soon I found myself communicating with her pretty regularly. She is a goddess of war and death, yet I found her to be very protective of me and warning me of paths I should avoid.

I owe her a lot and it was around then she gave me the name Eric Ravenwolf. That isn't my legal name, big surprise, but its the name I often feel more conntected with and reflects more of who I am becoming. I've never talked about this publicly so it feels weird typing it. Some people think I changed my name beacuse of past drama and issues, but that isn't hte case at all. It has a very spiritual meaning for me. It just feels weird when I explain it to people at art shows, to tell them a Celtic Deity gave me my name. So I just say its a pseudonym.

Once I had my new name, I felt my witchy journey really began. The Morrigan guided me through a lot of learning, reading and honing my practice. After a few years, she kind of went quiet. I was sad at first, but then realized her work with me was done. It was time for me to stand on my own.

I worked with Apollo and some other deities since then, but now I don't do any deitie work or practice. It's just general working with energy and the universe. Not that I no longer believe in gods and goddesses, I do. In witchcraft working with them is optional. and I choose not to at this time.

Anyway, thats how I got started in a nutshell. I could go through every moment during that time bit by bit, but its a lot of mundane stuff about visions, dreams and tarot readings. However it was about 3 years ago I started learning art and drawing, and I feel much of my weirder art is channeled by the spirits.

Once again, I know some of that may sound weird, but what is life without a little weirdness.

I will say after having been an atheist for so long, the world is a much brighter place when you can feel, sense and take in the actual magic that is all around us every day. I see the universe as a powerful and magical place and not just some meatgrinder we have been plunked into without any real purpose.

So whatever your practice is, even if you're not at the moment due to life, illness or just not feeling it, you're still a witch and you're still magical. We all are to some degree, its just a matter of how much we wish to tap into it.
