Friday Morning Musings
Things I think about when everyone is alseep
I'm up around 4am which happens a lot. This is the time I do most of my blogging. I fall asleep around 11pm - 12am then wake up around 4 and I'm wide awake so I blog and then fall back to sleep. Not sure why I feel so alert this time of day, but it is what it is.
This week I'm learning a lot about how to run this page. I won't repeat too much from the last post, but I'll reiterated I was sending too many out as emails. I'm sure that was frustrating for some folks and I apologize for overwhelming everyone. So, I'll post to my page several times a week but will only send out 2-3 emails each week if that to keep things balanced. My most thoughtful pieces will go to your inboxes. So if you like my verbal diarrhea feel free to check in on the page and comment with your thoughts.
I also do my paralegal work this time of day, and if my head needs a once over with my head shaver, then I do that too. Yes, I have a special shaver just for my head. It makes it really easy to buzz through without risk of cutting or nicking my skin. It also only takes a couple minutes. I promise this isn't a product placement, just me blabbing about my routine.
There is something peaceful about writing at a time of day when everyone including our four cats and dog are all asleep. I put music on my headphones and just pound out whatever is on my mind. There is also something freeing about not forcing myself to have a fancy topic. While having a deep topic is great and I will continue to do them, every blog doesn't need to be a deep, spiritual study. They take a lot out of me for one, but I like to mix it up and I feel it gets tiring to read nothing but that also.
Right now I'm listening to Olivia Rodrigo's Drop Dead. One of my current favorite songs. I like a lot of rock, but I consider her a throwback to Alanis Morrisette back in the day. Not only is she a great songwriter and singer, but she seems like a pretty amazing person also. One thing I missed out on when I was full swiftie is enjoying the art and music of other great talents.
I have a pretty weird mix of music, my playlist has Olivia, Sabrina Carpenter, Blackpink, the Warning, The pretty Reckless, Ghost and Iron Maiden to name a few. I think I also have some ska bands mixed in just for good mesaure. Sounds disjointed, but I figure variety is important and it will keep me grounded and well rounded.
Its the same as my movies. Today when I didn't feel well, I put on 2013 Evil Dead and took a nap as its my comfort movie. Though I also love Silver Linings Playbook and Bring it On. Someone once told me I was a strange anomaly and I took that as a compliment.
I also like nerdy things and football. Among many of my friends they don't like sports, so I don't post as much about it. But I grew up in a football community and it kind of grew on me and has stayed with me. Our son played Pop Warner football when he was six, but didn't like it so we let him quit. I'm glad we did with CTE and concussions being such a concern. But its also important to honor kids' autonomy.
I think that sums up where my brain is at for today. I may write something more deep later today. I'm also on X now as @TheArtsyBrain. I had been on threads for awhile but meta did what meta does and has throttled it so much its almost useless. I left X because it had gotten so chaotic, but it seems to have settled down a lot. People following me all seem pretty nice, so thats a good feeling. If you're on there, give me a follow.
Until next time.
Eric
